We’re in the busiest book-buying season of the year—and also the time when the fewest titles are published. At this point, most people’s shopping lists are filled with the books that got a lot of buzz this year, so these titles will all be familiar.

Jeff Kinney and Dav Pilkey are both holding onto their spots on this list, despite the fact that most bestseller lists split kids’ books into their own category, so they’re working at a disadvantage. It’s a good reminder of just how many units the most popular children’s books can move.

The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny Cover Image

This list continues to lack of diversity on many levels, including being disproportionately by white authors. Some Indie Bestsellers you should know about are The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny by Kiran Desai, Good Things by Samin Nosrat, and The Backyard Bird Chronicles by Amy Tan.

To get these numbers, we look at the New York Times, both Combined Print & E-Book Fiction and Combined Print & E-Book Nonfiction lists; Amazon Charts, both Fiction and Nonfiction; Publishers Weekly; USA Today; and Indie Bestsellers, Fiction and Nonfiction, both Paperback and Hardcover.
