Welcome to the first full week of the new year. In addition to opening up a new and fresh page on your calendar, it’s an exciting week because publishing is back in session. This week, we’ve got a number of new YA books hitting shelves, making for an excellent opportunity to bulk up your new year to be read list.

We’ve got our first book this week hitting shelves simultaneously in hardcover and in paperback. We saw this several times in 2025, and I hope it’s a trend that continues–giving readers options for how they purchase their books is helpful, especially when it comes to teens who don’t have the kind of book money that can afford them new hardcovers all the time.

Unfortunately, this week isn’t quite as diverse as most weeks are in the YA book world. That doesn’t mean we won’t see more inclusivity as the weeks roll on in 2026. We will–it’s worth noting here, though, as this year’s new launch titles aren’t quite up to what they will be.

Get excited about plenty of new additions to growing series books, paperback releases of some of last year’s beloved books, and more. We’ve got a fresh take on Little Women alongside fiery dragon tales, a new story of a beloved super heroine alongside a Groundhog Day-esque story, new releases from beloved YA authors, so much more.

Ready to refresh your shelves? We have a giveaway that can help! Enter to win a 1-year subscription to Book of the Month!

beth is dead book cover

Beth Is Dead by Katie Bernet

On New Year’s Day, Beth March was found dead in the woods. Now her sisters are bound and determined to figure out who did the crime.

There are plenty of suspects. Among them are a neighbor, Meg’s best friend, Amy’s mentor, any of Jo’s social media followers, and Beth’s first crush. But the sisters are, too, themselves suspects.

Could it have been their dad, who published a bestselling book about his daughters just months earlier?

This murder-y take on Little Women is told through multiple perspectives, including flashbacks from Beth herself. It sounds like a wild ride, whether or not you’re familiar with the source material.

the swan's daughter book cover

The Swan’s Daughter by Roshani Chokshi

Prince Arris knows, thanks to a poorly worded wish to a sea witch, that when he gets married, he’ll be murdered. Once someone has the hand of the heir to the Isle of Malys, they take over.

The Prince’s only chance of survival is finding real and true love, not someone interested in simply taking over. Otherwise, he’s going to end up dead and reemerge in the form of a tree. So when the Prince’s parents announce a tournament of brides to win his hand, he’s both surprised and worried; the wrong choice will mean certain death. It’s a dizzying series of dates and parties, and the Prince is struggling to figure out who is true and who is simply thirsty for power.

When he meets Demelza, though, the Prince’s future begins to look different. She’s a veritas swan, whose songs tell nothing but truth. She strikes a deal with the Prince: he’ll keep her safe, as she’s been forced into hiding, and she’ll help him sort through his potential brides.

It’s a huge opportunity for both of them. Demelza will learn how to speak her truth without fear while the Prince will begin to understand what true love looks, feels, and sounds like.

But Corith quickly learns that maybe she isn’t so lucky after all and that all of her hard work hasn’t paid off as planned. There are dark conspiracies and secrets both within the family and within the water surrounding House Shearwater. There’s also the family’s son Llir, with whom Corith has a hot-cold relationship. Her loyalties are being tested. Will she survive and get answers to her questions or will she see the same fate as her friend before her?

at the end of everything book cover

At The End of Everything by Marieke Nijkamp

There is no such thing as hope at the Hope Juvenile Treatment Facility. Juvenile delinquents are hardly acknowledged by the facility, let alone anyone outside of it.

So when the guards at Hope start acting weird and then suddenly stop showing up all together, the teens inside are ready to venture out. Except the moment they do, they’re greeted by soldiers outside. Those soldiers tell them that no one is allowed to leave their homes or travel without a permit. There’s a deadly disease making the rounds.

The teens are stuck at Hope. But they’re not just stuck. They’re stuck there alone, with no one watching them. Supplies are starting to disappear and some of the teens are beginning to get sick. It’s now a matter of literal life and death–but who can be trusted within their ranks to do what’s right and help them stay alive?

a cruel thirst book cover

A Cruel Thirst by Angela Montoya

Carolina Fuentes grew up in a family of vampire hunters and wants to continue in the business. Her father doesn’t want that, though, and he’s insisting on marrying her to a husband who will take her away from the danger.

She’s going to show her dad that she’s fierce enough to be a slayer by taking down an infamous local monster. Unfortunately, she finds herself face to face with un vampiro who she cannot stop admiring. Who she’s deeply attracted to. Who is a bit of a distraction.

Lalo Villalobos has been cursed. He was living a normal life until he was bitten by un vampiro, and now, he’s seeking safety in a community known for its vampire population. There has to be someone who can help him reverse this curse.

That’s when he meets Carolina. Though their lives are so different, they have surprisingly similar goals. If they work together to take down a common enemy, then maybe, just maybe, they can reverse their fates (and, of course, be able to fall in love).

dear manny book cover

Dear Manny by Nic Stone

Technically, this is the third book in a series, but none of the books in Stone’s “Dear Martin” series need to be read in order or prior to reading this one.

Readers looking for more YA books set in college will dig this one, which follows Jared. He’s running for Junior class president and his platform of increasing diversity and equity across campus nearly guarantees he’ll win, especially against his conservative competitor.

But then a transfer student decides she wants to run for Junior class president, and she’s pressing a real challenge against Jared. He’s not only being forced to reckon with where and how he would install better inclusivity across campus, but he’s starting to catch some feelings for that competition. To work through both—and to keep a level head through this tough campaign season—he begins writing letters to his dead best friend Manny.
