No matter how many new books I read, the historical fiction just keeps coming! But considering how good some of the books from January turned out to be (shout out to Burn Down Master’s House and A Beast Slinks Toward Beijing), I can’t say I’m complaining. I have hopes just as high that a number of the books on this list are going to blow me—and you—out of the water. These new February historical fiction books are filled with characters both familiar and new, over the top and understated, and everything in between. You’ll meet singers, soldiers, doctors, con artists, and choreographers. Some are based on historical fact, some are wildly inventive tales that reimagine history as it was and as it could be. All of them are certainly well worth a read.

A family music group just on the verge of making it big in the 1960s crosses paths with a young ghost that changes their lives forever. Christmas Jones the Third has a past in performing himself, but it’s his family he’s actually after. For a while, he fits right in. But when Christmas commits a violent act, the Johnson siblings and their father are driven apart. Decades later, they’re still trying to find their way back to each other.
