- Sal Buscema, celebrated Marvel artist and inker (and younger brother of the legendary John Buscema), passed away just short of his 90th birthday.
- Disney CEO Bob Iger decided to step down early (to spend more time with his superyacht, allegedly). What the restructuring will mean for Marvel and the other eleventy billion companies hoarded by Disney is not yet clear.
- Marvel is celebrating two milestone anniversaries this year: the 50th anniversary of Jack Kirby’s Eternals and the 20th anniversary of Civil War.
- Sebastian Stan joins a lengthening list of actors who are a part of both the Marvel and DC movie franchises: he is slated to appear in The Batman Part II in an as-yet-unknown role.
- Alan Cumming, the once and future Nightcrawler, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and talked about how he accidentally injured Pedro Pascal/Mister Fantastic on the set of Avengers: Doomsday.
- This April, Gene Luen Yang, and Michael YG are teaming up for a Jubilee one-shot comic! Excitement!
- Also in April, Zatanna is getting her own ongoing series. If, like me, you enjoyed last year’s miniseries by Jamal Campbell, you’ll be glad to know that Campbell is writing and drawing the new series as well.
- A proposed sequel to the video game Batman: Arkham Shadow has been shelved, thanks to catastrophic layoffs that decimated multiple Meta-owned video game developers.
News From the Wider Comics World
- Publishers Weekly reported that sales of graphic novels jumped over 9% in 2025, with a couple of titles (both Dog Man-related) making the overall bestseller list. Good job, everyone!!
- The trailer for One Piece Season Two dropped!
- Look sharp, Lore Olympus lovers: Amazon Prime is turning the hit webtoon into an animated series.
- Check, Please! is back, baby! Series creator Ngozi Ukazu will be releasing a new volume featuring your favorite characters, plus some new ones, later this year.
- If you’re going to be in Cleveland this summer, may I recommend a trip to the Maltz Museum, which will be featuring an exhibit called The Jewish Comics Experience.
- The American Library Association has selected the winners for the first Outstanding Comics Awards for Adults: The Night Eaters, Tongues, and Insectopolis.
- For a few short hours, San Diego Comic-Con decided to allow AI “art” into their art show this year. After a vociferous response from actual, human artists and fans who didn’t want slop clogging up valuable floor space, SDCC backed off and has now banned all AI-generated images.

- The Comics Journal took a fascinating look at how newspaper comic strips — Beetle Bailey in particular — declined in quality and influence over the course of the twentieth century.
- Scott Adams, the racist, antisemitic conspiracy monger responsible for the long-running comic strip Dilbert, passed away.
