February flew by in the blink of an eye. If you haven’t yet incorporated or planned to incorporate more Black literature into your reading life, you’ve got the time to take advantage of the many excellent lists that have floated around this month and prepare for the rest of 2026.

Although there is not a dearth of new YA book releases this final week of February, there is definitely a dearth of inclusive titles. This has been a preface I’ve now written more often in 2026 than not. Last fall, I wrote about the challenge of finding upcoming Latine YA book releases for the new year and noted that keeping an eye on winnowing selections of diverse literature was something that we should all be doing. It’s still early in the year, and we know the first couple of months generally offer fewer books, period. But we’re now entering prime-time publishing season. If there’s a continued need to point out a lack of diverse authors, that would point to an issue in YA publishing this year. I remain optimistic that we’ll see the seas expand as we move forward. Still, I remain realistic that the continued assault on diverse literature by politicians and their ground-level lackeys has slowed a much-needed and crucial component of publishing and representation more broadly.

This week, we’ve got another dual release, continuing that slight trend. We’ve also got a host of thrillers, several new and continuing series installments, and more.

the fall of iris henley book cover

The Fall of Iris Henley by Jennifer Graham

Choose your fighter, hardcover or paperback, in this simultaneously-releasing title being compared to Kara Thomas. The author is the one who was behind the pair of Veronica Mars novels we got several years back.

It doesn’t take much to ruin a person’s reputation. Iris Henley knows this–someone shared in their school’s subreddit forum that she’s a murderer. Iris, the post said, killed Rocky and Lynette, two students who were killed the previous summer.

Everything in Iris’s life shatters immediately. She is the perfect suspect: Rocky was her boyfriend, and Lynette was her former best friend (and the girl Rocky was cheating on Iris with). Iris didn’t murder them, though, and now, she has to navigate all of the rumors and clear her name as fast as she can.

limelight book cover

Limelight by Andrew Keenan-Bolger

Fame meets Rent is the pitch, and for many readers, that’ll be enough.

Set in 1996, this story follows 15-year-old Danny, whose dream is to escape his challenging family life in Staten Island by attending the LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts, and he’s been invited to an audition.

What Danny didn’t anticipate was how talented and how competitive his classmates there would be. And while he has achieved one of his dreams for being on stage, he can’t help but wonder as he navigates this new environment, his family difficulties, and a new–real, meaningful–friendship, whether or not those dreams are serving him the way they once did. Where does he belong, anyway?

Paradise Coast by Suzanne Young book cover

Paradise Coast by Suzanne Young

There once was a luxurious hotel deep in the Everglades that catered to every whim of the elite. But one night, a mysterious fire burned it down, and one person died. The elite have always blamed it on the local dock workers. With the hotel’s complete disappearance into the wetlands, though, no real investigation took place. Still, the locals’ reputation was forever damaged.

So when a hurricane unearths the remains of the hotel, the questions are back. Noa and her friends, locals who have always wanted to clear their ancestors’ names and reputations, are insisting that the truth be discovered. It won’t be easy because the rich keep pushing back, and their power over others is significant. But perhaps the help of a son of one of the wealthy elite will be key to justice.

This one’s getting Outer Banks and White Lotus comps.

Natalie is on a summer class trip to Greece, and while she’s ignoring her new diagnosis of having obsessive-compulsive disorder, she’s feeling okay alongside her best friend, Liam.

It doesn’t take long for Natalie to develop feelings for Melanie, the Greek teacher’s daughter. Those feelings are making this summer especially exciting, and Natalie is enjoying several off-the-books trips with Melanie around the country.

But as much as Natalie loves these new feelings, she can’t help but continue to overthink them. Perhaps ignoring what OCD does and doesn’t do for her wasn’t the best idea–and possibly spending time understanding this diagnosis will make the feelings budding between her and Melanie even more meaningful.
