  • Last month, the Prairieland defendants, a group of anti-ICE protestors, were found guilty on spurious terrorism charges. One of the defendants was cartoonist Daniel “Des” Sanchez-Estrada, who received a 30-year sentence for moving a box of leftist zines.   • Stephanie Williams became the first Black woman–and only the second Black person ever–to be nominated for Best Writer at the Eisners, an accomplishment that many outlets ignored.
  • The 2026 Harvey Award nominees have been announced!
  • One more award-related headline: Gaysians by Mike Curato won the 2026 Lambda Award in the LGBTQ+ Comics category. Congrats!
  • If you’re going to San Diego Comic-Con this year or just happen to be in the area, there’s an extra event you might want to check out: the SDCC Oral History Panel. The event is free to everyone, with or without a con badge.
  • Manga platform emaqi has launched a new subscription service called emaqi Premium that lets users access hundreds of series from top publishers.
  • Ignition Press is celebrating its second anniversary with a slew of new titles ranging from romantic comedy to horror.
  • Crunchyroll dropped a whole bunch of trailers, including those for the anime version of The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy at All and other popular series.
  • Controversial webcomic Song of the Wasteland, which came under fire for its deeply racist depictions of American history, has been cancelled, with the artist and the publisher both issuing apologies.
  • Comics are a great way to provide important information in a digestible way, as this NPR comic about the dangers of excessive heat demonstrates.
  • Roy Schwartz and Frank Stockton worked with the Smithsonian to create this excellent comic about the history of, well, comics!
  • Interview time! Foreword Reviews talked with Chad Anderson, the author of Gay Mormon Dad, which was recently adapted into a graphic novel, and AIPT talked to Jadzia Axelrod and Sarah Webb about the upcoming Worlds Beyond Number graphic novel.
