It sure has been a busy few weeks for comic book fans! Let’s take a look.

News From DC and Marvel

• Julian McMahon, who played Doctor Doom in the 2000s, passed away on July 2.
• Cover reveal! Check out the official covers for Deadpool/Batman #1, on sale this September!
• If you’re going to Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, or Hong Kong Disneyland this summer, keep an eye out for the Fantastic Four (and say hi for me).
• Smithsonian Magazine did two pieces on the Man of Steel: one on the history of his catchphrase, and the other on why he has proven to be such an enduring character.
• Continuing on the subject of Superman, neither director James Gunn nor the cast has any time for right-wingers complaining about the blatantly obvious: that Superman is an immigrant. Nor should they, as despite (maybe because of?) the non-controversy, the film raked in $125 million at the domestic box office and $220 million globally during its opening weekend.
• Thunderbolts* is now available on Blu-ray (and has been on digital for a while).
• Turns out a lot of the costumes for the record-breaking film Sinners were originally intended for Marvel’s unmade Blade reboot! Speaking of that troubled remake, will it ever get made? Mahershala Ali isn’t talking, but Kevin Feige is.
• And that’s not all Feige’s been saying either, with big announcements regarding future casting and projects getting headlines recently. Preemptive RIP to the social media mentions of whoever is the new Iron Man. You KNOW the more toxic segment of the fanbase is going to eviscerate that poor man.
• Entertainment Weekly posted a list of the best animated romances that includes several super-couples…and, uh, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo. I’m trying not to think too hard about that one.

News From the Wider Comics World

• David Harper, who runs the comics subscription service SKTCHD and hosts a comics-related podcast, has hit a financial and medical rough patch. If you have the means, please consider supporting him!
• The 2025 Emmy nominations are here! In terms of comic bookish news, The Penguin scooped up a whole lot of nominations, while Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, Agatha All Along, What If…?, Invincible, The Umbrella Academy, and The Boys got some love as well. Those “Batman vs. Bateman” ads for State Farm were nominated for Outstanding Commercial (that’s a thing, apparently).
• The 2025 Anime Expo happened, and Comics Beat has all the big headlines and little details.
• You have until tomorrow to preorder the BINC Foundation‘s limited edition “I Stand with Book and Comic Stores” T-shirts featuring exclusive artwork.
• The graphic novel series Zita the Spacegirl is getting the big-screen treatment.
• Dynamite is launching a comic book series based on beloved shows, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supernatural. Look for the first issue this October! Meanwhile, Dynamite and several other publishers are suing to get their inventory back before bankrupt comics distributor Diamond liquidates it all.
• Popverse interviewed Tillie Walden about her zombie-rrific trilogy, Clementine.
