ONE PIECE Grabs Early Season 3 Renewal at Netflix
⚓ Books 📅 2025-08-29 👤 surdeus 👁️ 14It sure has been a month in terms of comics news, hasn’t it? Here are some of the highlights–and lowlights–from the past couple of weeks. There’s a lot here, so buckle in.
News About DC and Marvel
- Terence Stamp, best known to superhero fans as the bombastic General Zod in Superman 2 (though I recommend giving The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert a watch), passed away on August 17.
 - Erstwhile Superman Dean Cain continues to prove that he has never and will never understand the character. In early August, he announced that he had joined ICE so he could personally brutalize and terrorize innocent people, including children. Incidentally, if you have a few bucks to throw at RAICES or other immigrants’ rights organizations, now would be a good time.
 - James Gunn’s Superman is out on digital already! Yay!
 - Have you seen the original art for this Spider-Man page? It was stolen from comics art collector Albert Moy, who is offering a $20,000 reward.
 - The Handmaid’s Tale‘s Max Minghella has joined the cast of DC’s horror take on Clayface.
 - We’re learning more about the upcoming Marvel/DC crossover event! Who wants to see Harley Quinn annoying the Hulk?
 - Marvel has announced a new ongoing series about Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme…of Asgard.

News From the Wider Comics World
- Indonesian protestors started using One Piece‘s pirate flag as a symbol of protest in the weeks leading up to that nation’s independence day (August 17).
 - Speaking of One Piece, Netflix confirmed that their version of the beloved manga will get a third season.
 - This year’s Harvey Award nominees were announced! Winners will be revealed this October.
 - Valiant Comics, partner Alien Books, and writer Mauro Mantella have been in hot water over thinly veiled transphobic rhetoric in their book Bloodshot. Mantella’s less-than-stellar social media track record did not help the controversy.
 - NPR did a write-up on the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film in honor of its 35th anniversary and rerelease in theaters.
 - RIP to those Archie Digests that were once ubiquitous at supermarket checkouts.
 - Any Lewis LaRosa fans out there? You still have time to join this Kickstarter campaign to fund an expansive collection of his work.
 - Book Riot’s Kendra Winchester covered Holler, a new graphic memoir worth checking out.

Caught up with the news? Great! Now enjoy some comics about tarot cards, read your way into horror comics (especially if they scare you!), and learn about the state of copaganda in superhero comics.
