This list is fairly short today, because the biggest bestseller lists can’t agree on much of anything at the moment. The only title to make it to all five lists—as I predicted last week—is Katabasis by R. F. Kuang.
One of the titles appearing on this feature for the first time (and hopefully the last) is The Hallmarked Man by Robert Galbraith, a pen name for J.K. Rowling. It’s disappointing that despite Rowling spending more time fighting to strip trans people of rights than she does writing, her books still make the bestseller lists, but I expect it won’t stay on here for long.
Because children’s books are usually on their own lists, a notable book that likely won’t appear here is Stephen King’s new picture book Hansel and Gretel, which uses the late Maurice Sendak’s illustrations.
This list continues to lack of diversity on many levels, including being disproportionately by white authors. Some Indie Bestsellers you should know about are The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali, The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride, and Mother Mary Comes to Me by Arundhati Roy.
To get these numbers, we look at the New York Times, both Combined Print & E-Book Fiction and Combined Print & E-Book Nonfiction lists; Amazon Charts, both Fiction and Nonfiction; Publishers Weekly; USA Today; and Indie Bestsellers, Fiction and Nonfiction, both Paperback and Hardcover.
