You’ve read The Woman in Cabin 10, and maybe you’ve already watched the Netflix adaptation starring Keira Knightly. Now it’s time to check back in on Lo Blacklock, the travel writer who found herself in the middle of a mystery when she witnessed a murder on the Aurora cruise ship. Now, years later, Lo finds herself once again at the center of a murder mystery while abroad. If you’re anything like me, you’re probably wondering “How the heck did this woman get herself in this mess yet again?” And, yes, it’s totally wild, but I could not put this book down. And if you loved The Woman in Cabin 10, you won’t be able to put this one down either.
![]() The Woman in Suite 11 by Ruth WareLet’s talk about Lo Blacklock. A lot has changed since we last checked in with her at the end of The Woman in Cabin 10. She has a husband and two kids and is living in the United States. Between having two young children and the COVID-19 virus, Lo has had to put her career as a travel writer on the back burner. So when she receives an invitation to attend the press opening of a luxury Swiss hotel, Lo is a little surprised that she’s at the top of the list. Still, she is hoping to reestablish her career, and this is the perfect opportunity. So she accepts the job in the hopes that she can score an exclusive interview with Marcus Leidmann, the billionaire owner of the hotel who is infamously difficult to nail down for interviews. |
But as soon as she heads to the airport for her trip, the surprises begin. Lo immediately gets told she’s been upgraded to first class, and she has no idea who would do this or why. Then she gets to the hotel, and she sees a lot of familiar faces. Sure, the world of travel writing might be smaller than one would think, but Lo still finds it strange that so many people who were present on the Aurora cruise ship are also here for the opening of this hotel. Now Lo has to question why she’s really been invited here and where this luxury vacation will end up taking her.
Even as Lo is prepared to expect the unexpected, nothing could have readied her for what happens next. Late at night, she receives an invitation to Marcus Leidmann’s hotel room. For a moment, Lo thinks she has somehow landed a career-saving interview with the elusive billionaire. But when she knocks on the door, a different face answers it: a woman who claims to be Marcus’ mistress. She tells Lo that she is in trouble, and Lo is the only person who can help her. What’s more, Lo knows this woman, and they have a history with one another.
Readers, everything I’ve just described to you is what happens within the first few chapters of this book. And the twists and turns just keep coming. I opened this book not knowing where the story would go, but just knowing that I loved The Woman in Cabin 10. I let the story take me where it was going to go, and I was not disappointed. If you haven’t read The Woman in Cabin 10, the first book gives important context that will help you appreciate this one more, so I would definitely read that one first. But if you’re anything like me, you’ll tear through it in one sitting. Enjoy!
