Welcome to Today in Books, our daily round-up of literary headlines at the intersection of politics, culture, media, and more. Here are the stories we covered ourselves on Book Riot this week.

The National Book Awards honor books written by U.S. authors for books published in the United States. The five categories include Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Translated Literature, and Young Peopleโ€™s Literature. Starting in 2013, the Foundation elected to present a longlist in each category, composed of ten titles and released in September. Those longlists are whittled down to a shortlist and shared in October, as a run-up to the awards. Finalists each take home $1,000, while the winner in each category received $10,000 and a bronze sculpture.

This latest adaptation of the mega-popular franchise is based on the book of the same name, and follows a young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada. Haymitch has been chosen to participate in the 50th annual Hunger Games, along with nearly 50 other children, twice the number of tributes as usual.

And for All Access members, here are all the interesting links we bookmarked that didnโ€™t make the cut for full Today in Books coverage.
