The Library Card Formerly Known As Prince and Other Library News
⚓ Books 📅 2025-11-25 👤 surdeus 👁️ 8As usual, a lot has been happening in Library World, but I’ve pulled together some of the most essential reading from the last few weeks. We have a key lawsuit victory, a helpful article about rest and repair for library workers, tips for reading while neurodivergent, and a really cool limited edition library card.
Let’s dive in.
Amanda Jones Wins A Lawsuit
After several years of legal setbacks, Amanda Jones has finally won one of her defamation lawsuits against the people who falsely claimed that she was in support of providing sexually explicit materials to children. Defendant Ryan Thames posted a public apology video to his Facebook page and paid Jones $1, as outlined in the lawsuit. As Jones said, “‘This was never about money—it was about integrity.'” The defamation suit continues against Citizens For a New Louisiana and Michael Lunsford.
Seven Types of Rest That Librarians Actually Need
I know, I know…this sounds like one of those dreaded self-help articles that tells library employees they need to practice more mindfulness or do more yoga in order to alleviate systemic stress. But this article is really helpful in several ways: 1) It defines the different types of rest based on systemic stressors faced by library workers, 2) it offers concrete solutions and accommodations, and 3) it talks about rest support from an institutional level, which is the only way real change can be enacted. I highly recommend sending this article around to your colleagues at all levels of the organizational chart.
Reading While Neurodivergent
There are plenty of articles floating around about how to read more, but I found these two recent posts to be particularly illuminating. My capacity to focus on reading took a sharp downturn when the pandemic shutdown hit and never really recovered. I appreciated finding strategies that meet me where I’m at, rather than where I expect myself to be. I also loved this article about reading while neurodivergent, and how important it is to cultivate ways that bring you back to the joy of reading, even if it doesn’t look like the “typical” model of being a “good” reader. (Not to mention that suddenly struggling to read while working in a bookish profession that has defined your entire adult life is extremely demoralizing. Building back the joy of reading has to be the first step.)
Minnesota Library Releases a Limited Edition Prince Library Card
I mean, what else is there to say about this, other than this is really, really cool!
