How to setup a wasm dev environment with node and wepbpack in Feb 2026

I am staring with rust wasm and I am using Windows 11.

I have a trunk dev environment working, but in order to use old examples I need to set-up a node webpack environment which I cannot make it work (webpack is too old and node JS is too new, et cetera, the usual JS madness).

I noticed as well that trunk (which works very well indeed) has a fork, it is a pity we have trunk-ng now because we are going in the node JS imbroglio direction).

I believe that my problem is due to the JS - node versioning mess we are trying to get rid off using rust LoL.

Thus, I would like to know what is the recommended set of components with their mutually compatible versions, project structure and the workflow we need to use in order to build a wasm development environment with node and webpack in Feb 2026.

Thank you very much for your help.
