Hello, my name is KaiTomotake.

I am currently organizing a Japanese Rust community and, together with several volunteers, working on a Japanese translation of Rustโ€™s standard library documentation.

Purpose of the Project

Rust is a rapidly growing programming language worldwide. However, comprehensive and up-to-date resources in Japanese remain limited.

For beginners in particular, reading official documentation written in a non-native language can become a significant barrier. We believe that providing high-quality Japanese translations of the standard library can:

  • Lower the barrier to entry for new Rust learners
  • Reduce early-stage frustration and drop-off
  • Strengthen the Rust ecosystem in Japan

Current Situation and Challenges

Translating the standard library is a large-scale and ongoing effort. At present, we have only four volunteer contributors actively working on the project. Given the scope of the documentation, this is not sufficient to complete the work in a reasonable timeframe.

To build a sustainable structure, I have also been exploring grants and sponsorship opportunities. However, securing financial support has proven to be challenging so far.

Seeking Advice

To move this initiative forward in a more sustainable way, I would greatly appreciate insights or suggestions regarding:

  • Effective ways to attract more contributors
  • Sustainable funding models for documentation projects
  • Strategies to grow and strengthen the community

Our goal is to create an accessible learning environment for Japanese speakers and to contribute to the long-term growth of the Rust ecosystem in Japan.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
