Hello,

I'd like to share a concern and ask whether you think it's justified or not.

In these uncertain times, I'd like to know if there are any scenarios in which potential geopolitical decisions (US sanctions against individuals, companies, or states) or other circumstances would lead an independent Rust user or a Rust-dependent company to no longer be able to access (block access) the latest or future releases of rustc (site hosted in the US) and possibly access to cartes.io / GitHub ?

  • Is my impression that the Rust ecosystem and its vital components (compiler, crates) are highly centralized in the US relevant?

  • Is there a scenario in which new versions of rustc are inaccessible to a non-US user, and is this risk the same for Clang/LLVM ?

Have a good day,

Best
