RustForge talk on Adobe's Rust adoption
⚓ Rust 📅 2025-10-06 👤 surdeus 👁️ 7There's was a really good talk by David Sankel at Rust Forge, where he talks about Adobe's adoption of Rust. (Both the audio and video are a little wonky in the beginning, but they sort themselves out).
He held another presentation a while back called something along the line of "Rust features that I want in C++" which I - without any evidence what-so-ever - attribute to certain recent C++ features being standardized much sooner than they otherwise would have been.
If you haven't watched any of his Rust-related talks, I recommend first watching the "Rust features I want in C++" talk. Next, his lightningtalk at RustConf 2024 and finally the talk at Rust Forge. The progression goes something along the line of:
- "Rust has some nice features, we should adopt them in C++. And Rust talks are meant to be approachable by all. We should learn from this!"
- "Ok, I just wanted a Path. I learned a lot, but wtf?"
- "Using C++ for user input validation may give you a lung disease" (not actually his words, but you'll get the reference if you watch the presentation)
It's a fascinating insight into how - and why - large companies, with massive codebases, are adopting Rust.
