Tide Breaker story

Growing up in waves & Saddle Bay, Tide Breaker spent his childhood addicted to the coast, watching the rolling waves and braving the currents in ways that most ponies considered risky. Tide's parents were diligent fisherponies who were frequently busy, so he had the leisure to explore the beach by himself. He flung himself against the waves after building his first surfboard out of driftwood pieces. One summer, he fully understood the ocean's lure, surfing the bay's largest wave ever. That ride revealed his cutie mark, a curling wave.

Laid back but stubborn, Tide Breaker follows his gut over advice, and though it gets him into trouble, it’s also what makes him brave. He collects seashells as keepsakes and ties them into bracelets to give to ponies who matter to him. One of the first ponies he ever gave one to was a filly named Saltwater Taffy, whom he saved from drowning during a midnight sneak to the shore.

That night stuck with him as much as it did her. Even though she disappeared soon after — her family suddenly moving away from Surf & Saddle Bay — Tide never forgot the frightened but fiery filly who clutched his bracelet like it was a lifeline.

Now, as a grown stallion, he travels from beach to beach, teaching ponies to respect both the ocean and one another. He still has a stutter, still snacks endlessly on bananas after swimming, and still loses his cool only when others litter the beaches he loves.

Saltwater Taffy story

Saltwater Taffy grew up in luxury, but not in warmth. Taffy grew up in a coastal villa where looks were more important than love because her father was involved in politics and her mother was his secretary. Love was something she read about in books, never something she experienced, and her parents' marriage was troubled, with conflicts resonating through the hallways more often than laughter. She was frequently left alone when her parents weren't home.

When her mother was injured in a snorkeling accident, her father expressed concern, but their home remained tense. Afraid of losing their daughter, her parents became too protective, prohibiting her from going near the ocean she wished to grasp. She spent hours gazing out her window, aching to touch the water's surface.

But Saltwater Taffy was not the kind of person who followed silently. One moonlit night, curiosity and need prompted her to slip out and meet the waves she regularly observed from her window; she was desperate to feel the waves for herself. However, she was overtaken by the tide and nearly drowned before being rescued by a young colt named Tide Breaker on his rough, improvised surfboard. He calmed her fears, made her laugh despite her panic, and wrapped one of his seashell bracelets around her hoof before leaving. Before leaving, he fastened one of his seashell bracelets to her hoof and told her to "go with the flow." That encounter sparked something inside her—a taste of independence and an awareness of kindness she'd never had at home. That moment — salty air, ocean spray, and the warmth of someone who noticed her — lingered long after she was hauled home and disciplined.

Her parents, terrified, relocated inland to keep her safe from "danger." Taffy was raised in the city, cold and cynical, concealing her true emotions behind biting remarks. But, as she grew older, Taffy could never forget the boy who rescued her or her fascination of the ocean. She returned to the seaside as an adult, wanting to reconnect with that part of herself—and perhaps with him.

Unable to resist the allure of the water, she now owns a little candy shop in the seaside town, manufacturing brightly wrapped sweets that contrast with her prickly demeanor. She would never reveal what inspired her sweet delicacies, stating it was the waves, but we all know it was love. She's snarky, rude, and quick to push folks away—but only because she's afraid of getting hurt. When it comes to Tide Breaker, her tsundere side takes over completely: she wishes to confess, but every time she does, her nerves fail her. Instead, she expresses affection in unexpected ways, such as giving him candy samples "because no one else will eat them," mocking his mane for being untidy, or pretending not to care when she saves him snacks after a surf session.

She's still the girl staring at the ocean, hoping he'll make her feel comfortable enough to dive in. Deep down, she's still the filly clutching the seashell jewelry, wishing she could express how much that night meant to her.
